Thousand Oaks has a handful of apartment buildings, but real estate consists primarily of modern single family houses, some with in-law units attached. Along the southern edge of Thousand Oaks is Solano Ave, a vibrant commercial district filled with independent stores and award-winning restaurants. Residents of Thousand Oaks enjoy walking to their destinations- either to lunch or lattes on Solano or to the Thousand Oaks Knoll atop Solano. Here, rock-climbing enthusiasts from children to world-class climbers  clamber up the steep volcanic rock. This northeastern part of the Thousand Oaks neighborhood also is the best vantage points for inspiring views of the Bay. In addition to staggeringly beautiful sunsets, Thousand Oaks is just minutes away from Tilden Park, where you can hike, bike and swim in a pristine and vast regional park.

At the base of Thousand Oaks, homes are modest 2-3 bedrooms. However, as you move higher into the hills, homes start to increase in size and grandeur. The architecture in Thousand Oaks is varied with many homes built in the 20’s and 30’s in “Revival” style: Spanish Revival, Mediterranean villas, English Tudor mansions, American Colonial, and French Provincial. Home prices in Thousand Oaks generally range from the $800’s to $1 million for the smaller homes; the upper level view homes can be priced from $1-2 million and up. Schools in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood include Thousand Oaks Elementary- with its K-3 bilingual program and an emphasis on cultural diversity- Marin Elementary, School of the Madeleine, Martin Luther King Middle School, and St. Mary’s College Highschool.
